SIdP Scholarship 2012-2014
SIdP 17th National Congress - Bologna 15-17 March 2012 (Preliminary Program)
The main mission of the Italian Society of Periodontology is prevention and diagnosis of diseases of the parodontal tissues and their functional and aesthetic rehabilitation, including through implant procedures.
Founded in 1979, the society has approximately 1,000 active and associate members. It is dedicated to contributing to scientific knowledge in Periodontology, Implantology and in related medical-biological disciplines.
The Italian Society of Periodontology was founded in Rome in 1979 by the following:
Calandriello Marcello, Mirisola Filippo, Di Blasi Francesco, Giancotti Mario, Giancotti Giuseppe, Cagidiaco Michele, Cirillo Francesco, Perino Mario, Petrilli William, Cattabriga Marcello, Vogel Giorgio, Ceria Giuseppe, Modica Remo, Bar Umberto, Pini Prato Giovan Paolo, Perone Carlo Alberto, Barone Monfrin Sergio, Ierfino Giuseppe, Gerboni Guido, Magliarditi Ennio, Blasi Giorgio, Ravasini Giuseppe, Giorgini Guido, Scipioni Agostino, Mazzali Roberto Andrea, Mazzocco Carlo, Freni Sterrantino Sante, Carnevale Gianfranco, Ricci Giano, Valletta Giancarlo.
As an association, its scope is to promote study and scientific research in Periodontology and in related medical-biological fields. It must promote its position as a university discipline and within the National Health Service, and as well, it must work towards the establishment of adequate health education in order to bring awareness of parodontal health problems to the general public. The association is non-commercial and non-profit.
In April of 1980, the Assembly of Founding Members of the SIdP met and on this occasion also activated the members of the Italian Group for the Study of Parodontology, convened the Regulartory Commission for the Acceptance of Active Members, the Commission for Educational Activities, and for National and Press Relations. The President, President Elect and Vice President were elected.
In November of 1992, The European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) certified that the objectives and constitution of the SIdP met the criteria of the EFP.
During these years, the following members, renowned within the periodontal field, were President of the SidP:
Giuseppe Ceria, Umberto Bar, Giorgio Vogel, Marcello Calandriello, Marcello Cattabriga, Gianfranco Carnevale, Giovan Paolo Pini Prato, Massimo de Sanctis, Roberto Weinstein, Pier Paolo Cortellini, Giano Ricci, Antonio Carrassi, Giovanni Gagliardi, Mauro Merli, Luca Francetti.
The educational programme of the Italian Society of Periodontology has always been given much attention. Every year a national or international congress has been organized in which, thanks to world-renown speakers as well as competent Italian interlocutors, the most update themes in the field have been addressed. Numerous continuing education courses have also been held over the years.
One of the most noticeable trends in health care in the last years has been therapy and treatment based on available scientific evidence and on a cost-to-benefit balance.
“Do the right things” , therefore, but with a priority to give care supported by quality, methodological studies.
“Do the right things”, however, is not enough, especially in Periodontology and Implantology, where the difference between success and failure is not only in the choice of the most appropriate protocol but also and very often, in ability; that is to say, to do it well, in the right way.
“Do the right things right” is the theme of the SIdP programme for 2004.
The SIdP offers the latest positions of influential scholars in scientific research side by side with constant attention to “know how to do” and to tools useful in developing and broadening clinical-practical competencies.
This objective will be pursued by using different tools: continuing education courses, practical residential courses to small groups, and education through the internet and the web which we feel can attract the attention of both the scientific and professional community.
For each category the following requisite qualifications are necessary in order to become a member of the SIdP:
